Breaking: Army officer, wife, 2 children reportedly kidnapped in Taraba

A report by Daily Trust said that an officer of the Nigerian Army was abducted with his wife and two children along Wukari-Ibbi road on Sunday, April 28. Legit.ng gathered that the officer in civil dress was traveling in his personal car with his wife and two children when he was abducted by unknown gunmen at Ibiwa village in Ibbi local government area of Taraba state.

According to a man who was filming the accident scene, the unidentified driver however managed to escape death when he crashed his car.

Man Calls Out Apple After His iPhone X Allegedly Exploded During Software Update

APPLE is investigating reports than an iPhone X has exploded, after one user claimed on Twitter that his smartphone heated up and started giving off smoke while he was updating its software.

This wouldn’t be the first time that an iPhone X has suffered overheating problems, and in concert with Apple’s recent admission that the smartphone’s touchscreen doesn’t work properly, they question the tech giant’s usually strong reputation for producing reliable hardware.

Alleged N304.1m fraud: ex-NIMASA D-G seeks to recall EFCC witness

Lagos – A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday fixed Dec. 3 for a former NIMASA Director-General, Haruna Jauro, to recall a prosecution witness to testify in a N304 million fraud charge preferred against him.

Jauro assumed leadership of NIMASA – Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency after Patrick Akpobolokemi.

He is charged by the EFCC alongside Dauda Bawa and Thlumbau Enterprises Ltd. on 19 counts bordering on N304.1 million fraud.

They were arraigned on April 12, 2016, but they pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

The court admitted them to bail in the sum of N5 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

The prosecution had since closed its case after conclusion of a trial-within-trial ordered by the court at the instance of the defence.

The defence, thereafter, opened its case.

On Monday, defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo (SAN), informed the court that the second Prosecution Witness (PW2), a staff of NIMASA, who he intended to recall to testify for defence, was absent in court.

Citing various judicial and statutory authorities, Ojo told the court that the defence was at liberty to recall a witness, even where such a witness had been called by prosecution.

According to him, the witness was unability to attend court due to circumstances beyond his control.

He urged the court to allow the defence to recall PW2.

In response, prosecutor witness, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, submitted that Section 256 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law provided that the court can, on its own, call a witness already called by the prosecution.

He argued that the defence had not brought any application before the court in that regard, adding that there must be a valid application before the court.

He also said that the defence was attempting to stall trial.

After submissions of counsel, Justice Mojisola Olatoregun ordered defence counsel to file a formal application.

She adjourned the case until Dec. 3 for continuation of trial. (NAN)

A 35-year-old school administrator from Japan has ‘married’ the hologram of a virtual reality pop star named Hatsune Miku. The man's mother refused an invitation to attend the ceremony apparently over its weirdness.

Miku, who is characterised as a 16-year-old girl with long turquoise pigtails and giant saucer-shaped eyes is a bit of a phenomenon in Japan.

She’s actually a computer program and has had chart-topping songs and sell-out concerts where she appears as a hologram.

But for Akihiko Kondo, the relationship is a little more personal.

‘I’m in love with the whole concept of Hatsune Miku but I got married to the Miku of my house,’ he said.

The Miku of his house is a personalised hologram of the singer that floats inside a $2,800 desktop capsule. A personalised hologram he loves so much that he paid $17,600 on a formal ceremony at a hall in Tokyo that was witnessed by 40 guests.

The hologram couldn’t make it to the ceremony so she was represented by a stuffed doll likeness.

‘I never cheated on her, I’ve always been in love with Miku-san,’ Kondo said of his bride.

They’ve been living together since March.

He considers himself an ordinary married man—his holographic wife wakes him up each morning and sends him off to his job at the school.

In the evening, when he tells her by cellphone that he’s coming home, she turns on the lights. Later, she tells him when it’s time to go to bed.

He sleeps alongside the doll version of her that attended the wedding, complete with a wedding ring that fits around her left wrist.

Kondo’s marriage might not have any legal standing, but that doesn’t bother him. He even took his Miku doll to a jewellery shop to get the ring.

And Gatebox, the company that produces the hologram device featuring Miku, has issued a ‘marriage certificate”, which certifies that a human and a virtual character have wed ‘beyond dimensions’.

Kondo’s not alone either: he says Gatebox has issued more than 3,700 certificates for ‘cross-dimension’ marriages and some people have sent him supportive messages.

‘There must be some people who can’t come forward and say they want to hold a wedding. I want to give them a supportive push,’ he explained.

Even in a country obsessed with anime, Kondo’s wedding shocked many. But he wants to be recognised as a ‘sexual minority’ who can’t imagine dating a flesh-and-blood woman.

‘It’s simply not right, it’s as if you were trying to talk a gay man into dating a woman, or a lesbian into a relationship with a man.’

‘Diversity in society has been long called for,’ he added.

‘It won’t necessarily make you happy to be bound to the ‘template’ of happiness in which a man and woman marry and bear children.’

‘I believe we must consider all kinds of love and all kinds of happiness.’

Manchester United were made to pay for their mistakes against Manchester City, according to Jose Mourinho, after Sunday's defeat to the champions at the Etihad Stadium.

While speaking to MUTV, Sky Sports and in his press conference after the match, Mourinho cited defensive errors that led to the hosts tightening their grip on the game and the tough run of fixtures leading up to the derby that played a part in what was an afternoon to forget for the Reds.

A PERFORMANCE WITH MISTAKES

"Not a bad performance at all, far from it. One thing is a bad performance, another is a performance with mistakes. Ours was a performance with mistakes.

"All of the three goals were mistakes and we were punished for that. We were in the game until the 80th minute or something, even the home supporters felt that, but the third mistake punished us with a result that I don’t think we deserve."

”There was a fantastic character from the team and a great effort by everybody. [Marouane] Fellaini shouldn’t play for 90 minutes because it was too much for him. He should be on the bench and come on later in the game. But he had to play because of Paul [Pogba]’s absence.

"So it was not an easy week for us but I just told the players they’re playing much better than before; we are much stronger, we are much more compact. Now we have to not let the defeat disappoint us.

"Sad, yes, but not too disappointed. In two weeks’ time we play at home against Crystal Palace and, from that game, we have to try to get the points.”

Manchester United pair Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have both been ruled out of France's squad for their upcoming round of international fixtures.

It has been confirmed that Pogba and Martial would miss out with thigh and adductor complaints respectively, with Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette and Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko called up as replacements.

The 22-year-old missed out on World Cup glory over the summer, with his exclusion from Didier Deschamps’ squad taken by many as an indicator of the winger’s inconsistency last season and the wealth of talent at the national manager’s disposal.

So far this campaign Martial has provided glimpses of the player he has the potential to become, scoring six goals in his last five outings, including a double in the feisty 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking of his decision to recall Martial to the national team setup, Deschamps said: “He has incredible potential, but does not always show it regularly.

"What he is doing in Manchester now is closer to what he is able to do.”

The former minister of works and housing, Chief Tony Anenih, popularly called "Mr Fix It" has died at the age of 85. He died, this afternoon, at the Cedar Crest hospital in Abuja, where he had been on admission. Edo-born Anenih, a respected leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was once the chairman of the party's Board of Trustees. He also once served as a police orderly to the first Governor General of Nigeria, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.
A former police officer, Anenih was the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party from 1992 and 1993, when he assisted in the election Chief M. K. O. Abiola as president. He was also a member of the Constitutional Conference in 1994. More details later...

 - The Belgian forward has failed to find the back of the net in his past eight appearances for the Red Devils Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed why he took the decision not to play Romelu Lukaku in Sunday’s Premier League win over Everton at Old Trafford.

 According to The Mirror report citing Sky Sports sources, the Portuguese boss insists the decision was primarily based on the Belgian forward’s lack of confidence in front of goal lately. 

Interestingly, the big striker has failed to score in his last eight matches for the Red Devils and has been hugely by the supporters and football pundits as well. 

"He is playing lots of matches. He's not just scoring goals but fundamentally not showing lots of confidence. "Sometimes we decide the best thing for the player is not to be on the pitch, but to be protected, away from the pressure. "And if later he comes into game he came be positive, make a difference and back into normality. 

"Romelu can score lots of goals, he is under pressure because he known for that..,.” added Mourinho, who later replaced Marcus Rashford.on the 65th minute with Lukaku.

Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial netted a goal apiece in either halves to gift the Red Devils a much-needed victory. This was the 53rd Premier League meeting between the two sides, with United winning the 35 of those and Everton emerging victorious in just eight games. The Sunday clash was no different, as the Old Trafford outfit continued their dominance over the 
Toffees. 

Alexis Sanchez did not start for United even as Jesse Lingard returned to the team's line-up after a month-long absence. Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata led United's attack-line, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic controlling the midfield. 

The hosts dominated proceedings in the opening minutes, with their superiority paying off in the 27th minute when Pogba opened the scoring Martial extended the lead just four minutes after half-time, curling past a helpless Pickford from 18 yards. 
Everton nearly pulled one back in the 51st minute via Bernard who was played in by Richarlison but his shot hit the side net as De Gea looked on. However, in the 77th minute, Pogba was robbed in midfield, as Sigurdsson slid in Richarlison who was eventually brought down in the box by Chris Smalling to win a penalty. Sigurdsson neatly slammed the ball into the top right corner, with De Gea going low the other way to make it 2-1. Despite Everton's threat, United managed to hold until stoppage to claim a much-needed victory in front of their faithfuls. The victory saw the two sides swap places on the EPL standings, with the Reds up to eighth and the Blues down to ninth.

NAF aircraft provide support to repel Boko Haram attack in northern Borno

According to a statement sent to Legit.ng by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) director of public relations and information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, the operation was carried out over the night of Saturday, October 27 and early morning of Sunday, October 28, following a report from troops at Gashigar that their location was under attack. The statement revealed that a NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform that was on a mission at another location was immediately redirected to Gashigar. READ ALSO: NAF graduates 30 officers from young officers' course in Kaduna “In addition, a pair of Mi-35 helicopter gunships were scrambled to the location,” Air Commodore Daramola added. He further revealed that, “the NAF ISR platform was joined by another from the Nigerien Air Force and they both were able to identify the location of the terrorists, in 13 gun trucks, as they advanced towards the camp from 2 different directions. “They subsequently directed the fire of the helicopter gunships and own ground troops support weapons towards the terrorists. “The combined fire forced the terrorists to retreat from the camp, but noted that, “the terrorists attempted to regroup at a location outside the camp but were again engaged by the helicopter gunships and sent scampering in different directions, with several of them killed or injured in the process.” He stated that, “the ISR platform and helicopters remained within the location providing necessary air support for the troops until the situation was stabilized and threats neutralized,” adding that “the NAF, working in concert with surface forces, will sustain the tempo of operations with a view to destroying all remnants of the terrorists on the fringes of Lake Chad and other areas in Northern Borno.”

 The attack comes days after the ATF of Operation Lafiya Dole destroyed a Boko Haram logistics base, along with some vehicles, at Tumbun Sale in northern Borno state. The operation was conducted on Tuesday, October 23 ISR missions revealed the presence of some Boko Haram terrorists vehicles and several fighters camouflaged under thick vegetation within the area.
